Many polymer applications require the formation of a continuous film with high mechanical strength. Both the film formation process and the film's mechanical properties depend on the chemical composition and molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the polymer.
According to Jose M. Asua, a professor in the Institute for Polymer Materials and Dept. of Chemical Engineering at the Univ. of Basque Country (San Sebastian, Spain), most existing control strategies for copolymerization processes were designed to control a single polymer property. Asua and his colleagues have developed a strategy for the simultaneous control of the cumulative copolymer composition and the MWD. …
