Iraqi officials say at least nine people have been killed and 15 wounded in a blast targeting Shiite worshippers south of Baghdad.
A police officer says the explosion occurred around noon as Friday prayer services were being held in Musayyib. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information.
The officer and a hospital doctor, Saad al-Janabi, gave the casualty toll but could not immediately provide more details about the explosion.
The blast comes a day after Iraqi lawmakers approved a security pact with the United States that will allow U.S. forces to stay in Iraq for three more years. The pact's proponents argued the Americans are still needed because Iraqis aren't ready to take over security.
