NSW: Clean-up may not be finished until Friday
The State Emergency Service (SES) estimates the clean-up operation from Monday's wild
storms may not be finished until Friday.
The storms have generated more than 5000 calls for help since sweeping through the
Sydney and Tamworth areas, and director general of the SES Brigadier PHILIP MCNAMARA says
hundreds of volunteers have been working to clean up affected areas.
Brigadier MCNAMARA says hundreds of volunteers in the storm-affected areas went into
action right away to help their communities.
He also thanked Rural Fire Service volunteers and New South Wales Fire Brigade staff
for support during the clean-up operation.
Several thousand Sydney households remained without power this morning as the massive
clean-up continued, with EnergyAustralia warning it may take some time before it can reconnect
power to the worst affected areas of Hornsby, St Ives, Turramurra, Wahroonga and Dee Why.
