GOLD COAST, Aug 14 AAP - The largest tiger shark in captivity in the world is to bereleased back into the wild by Sea World as a part of an agreement reached today withthe RSPCA.

The four-metre-long tiger shark named Bonnie was the primary focus of complaints tothe animal welfare agency which launched an investigation into her health a week ago.

An independent shark expert hired by the RSPCA today gave Bonnie and six other largesharks a clean bill of health.

However, Sunshine Coast-based marine scientist Rod Garner has said Bonnie is not displayingher normal behaviour, spending most of her time on the surface of the water.

Mr Garner warned that Bonnie's health could suffer if she remained in the temporaryshallow swimming pool for much longer.

Bonnie is to be released by Sea World within the next week.

Mr Garner plans to monitor the condition of the remaining six sharks until the completionof their permanent home - a $13 million attraction called Shark Bay due for completionin December.

Sea World has maintained the sharks are in good condition but recovering from injuriessustained during their capture by a commercial fisherman.
